Backa Theatre
Backa Theatre primarily stages productions for children and young people. The theatre started in 1978 as an independent offshoot.
Backa Theatre is located in a converted sheet metal factory in Lindholmen on the island of Hisingen, Göteborg. The building is flexible and can be adapted to all the company´s productions.
The roughness of the original building ha been preserved. Characteristic features include concrete and tarmac floors, and uneven brick walls interspersed with stones and plaster repairs.
The building also features coarse concrete pillars. On the third storey an imposing concrete beam runs across the entire 90-metre nave.
Over the years, Backa Theatre has produced and achieved success with both newly written and classical works for children, youth and adults. It has been honoured with several awards, national as well as international ones, for their pioneering way of making and performing theatre. The company has also participated in different festivals all over Europe and around the world, for example in the Middle East, Africa and South America.
